1. Stethoscope
despite being a freshman in college or a sophomore, you'd need a stethoscope, litman's stethoscope is a great suggestion. Most medical schools in Nigeria introduce the use of stethoscope from sophomore or the preclinical year in med school. Especially during the physiology practicals where they will perform some basic measurements. So having a stethoscope for a start isn't a bad idea.
2. Good tablets, laptops or computers.
An average medical student would prefer studying with a laptop or desktop computer. Having at least a laptop could make learning and studying easier. Alot of students prefer to have soft copy notes and texts because it's easy to access and handy. Statistics have shown that majority of medical students spend more time studying with their iPad or computer.
3. Scrubs.  Most medical schools expects their med students to wear scrubs to class, so getting quality Scrubs 
And having several pairs is an important essential in med school
4. Highlighters and colored ball points.  
Owning highlighters  and colored pens are of great importance especially differentiating key words from others. Infact having different colors of highlighters for different group of words will really help in med school.
5. A nice backpack. 
 You need to have your study notes, materials lab coats highlighters and other important things in your backpack. It's nice if your backpack can serve all of these purposes and be comfy to carry around.
6. Smartphone. 
Nowadays lectures are going digital via Google meet, zoom and other social platforms. You can hardly be comfortable studying medicine without your own smartphone no matter how small.
7. Earpiece, Earbuds.  
 Medical students require alot of quiet time in order to carry out their studies effectively. A good soundproof headphone is all you need to log out of your noisy environment and replace the ambiance with a selected sound suitable for your studies 
8. Convenient shoes and clothes. 
 Remember that as a clinical med student you'd be spending long hours per day during rounds and review. If you don't have comfy shoes better change them or you might develop corm foot during your clinical postings.
9. comfortable reading table and chair. 
 No doubt that medical students spend lots of time sitting and studying, a comfortable table and chair is a great investment 
10. Tendon hammer.
 This instrument is used to elicit tendon reflexes as a means to measure the activity of the muscle and nerves in a partial muscle group in the body. Also remember that there's is pediatrics tendon hammer and adult tendon hammer.
11. Pen torch. 
This is used for alot of this like checking for transillumination of masses, pupillary light reflexes.
12. Dissection set.  
A dissection set is useful doing the anatomy practicals. If you love surgery getting a dissecting set during your anatomy dissection practical is not a bad way to start 

13. Wrist watch.   
Having a good wrist watch that helps you read arterial pulse isn't a bad one.
